Aim: It is aimed to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence levels and personal and social responsibilities in nursing students.
Method: The descriptive and relationship-seeking study was conducted with 303 students (N=475) studying in the first, second, third and fourth grades of a university's nursing department between October 15 and November 15, 2022 and who agreed to participate in the research without choosing a sample. "Personal Information Form", "Emotional Intelligence Scale (TEIQue-SF)" and "Personal and Social Responsibility Scale" were used to collect data. Descriptive statistics, independent groups t-test and one-way ANOVA, Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U, spearman correlation tests were used in the analysis of the data.
Results: The students' emotional intelligence mean scores were 78.4 (SD=11.6), and their personal and social responsibility mean scores were 62.8 (SD=9.9), and a moderately significant positive correlation was found between them (r=0.344; p<0,001). It was determined that a statistically significant difference the number of siblings of the students, their satisfaction with the nursing department, and their preference for nursing were among the mean scores of emotional intelligence; between the mean of personal and social responsibility scores due to mother education level, satisfaction with the nursing department, and preference for nursing (p<0.05).
Conclusion: It has been concluded that the emotional intelligence of the nursing students participating in the study is at a good level, their personal and social responsibilities are at a high level, and there is a relationship between them. It is recommended to determine educational strategies to improve the level of responsibility and emotional intelligence. Amaç: Çalışmada, hemşirelik öğrencilerinin duygusal zeka düzeyleri ile bireysel ve sosyal sorumlulukları arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı ve ilişki arayıcı tipteki araştırma, 15 Ekim- 15 Kasım 2022 tarih aralığında, bir üniversitenin hemşirelik bölümünde öğrenim gören (N=475) öğrencilerden, örneklem seçilmeksizin araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 303 öğrenci ile yürütülmüştür. Verilerin toplanmasında “Kişisel Bilgi Formu”, “Duygusal zeka ölçeği (TEIQue-SF)” ve “Bireysel ve Sosyal Sorumluluk Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde tanımlayıcı istatistikler, bağımsız gruplarda t-testi ve tek yönlü ANOVA, Kruskal Wallis ve Mann Whitney U, Spearman kolerasyon testleri kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: Öğrencilerin duygusal zeka puan ortalaması 78,4 (SS=11,6), bireysel ve sosyal sorumluluk puan ortalaması 62,8 (SS=9,9) olup aralarında olumlu yönde orta düzeyde anlamlı ilişki bulunmuştur (r=0,344; p<0,001). Öğrencilerin kardeş sayısı, bölümünden memnun olma ve hemşireliği seçme nedeni ile duygusal zeka puanları arasında; anne eğitim düzeyi, bölümünden memnun olma ve hemşireliği seçme nedeni ile bireysel ve sosyal sorumluluk puanları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklar olduğu saptanmıştır (p<0,05).
Sonuç: Çalışmada hemşirelik öğrencilerinin duygusal zekalarının iyi, bireysel ve sosyal sorumluluklarının da yüksek düzeyde olduğu ve birbiriyle ilişki olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Hemşirelik eğitimi programlarında duygusal zekayı ve sorumluluk düzeyini geliştirmeye yönelik eğitim stratejilerinin belirlenmesi önerilir.
