Aim: This study was conducted to determine the factors affecting the academic self-efficacy levels of nursing students.
Method: This descriptive study was conducted with undergraduate students studying at the Nursing Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences in a public university in the 2020-2021 academic year. The population of the study consisted of 467 undergraduate nursing students. The sample selection method was not used, and all volunteer students were allowed to participate. Data was collected online. The research was completed with 362 nursing students who filled out the data collection tool completely. Data were collected using the Introductory Information Form and the Academic Self-efficacy Scale. Descriptive statistics, independent groups t test, one way ANOVA tests were used in the analysis of the data.
Results: It was determined that 82.6% of the student participated in the study were female, 37.0% were second grade and the mean age of students was 20.91 (SD=1.62). Students’ academic self-efficacy mean scores were determined as 60.30±14.33. In the study, the academic self-efficacy levels of the first and last year students were found to be higher than the other students, and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.001). It was determined that the academic self-efficacy score average of the students staying in the dormitory and the students participating in the scientific programs was higher than the other groups, and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Nursing students’ academic self-efficacy mean scores were found to be at a medium level. The student's class, place of residence, participation in scientific programs and leisure time activities are factors that affect academic self-efficacy. Amaç: Bu araştırma, hemşirelik öğrencilerinin akademik öz yeterlilik düzeylerini ve etkileyen etmenleri belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır.
Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı tipte olan bu araştırma bir kamu üniversitesinde 2020-2021 eğitim öğretim yılında sağlık bilimleri fakültesi hemşirelik bölümünde öğrenim gören lisans öğrencileri ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın evrenini 467 hemşirelik öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Çalışmada, örneklem seçim yöntemi kullanılmamış, gönüllü tüm öğrencilerin katılımına olanak sağlanmıştır. Veriler çevrim içi ortamda toplanmıştır. Veri toplama aracını eksiksiz dolduran 362 hemşirelik öğrencisiyle araştırma tamamlanmıştır. Veriler, “Tanıtıcı Bilgi Formu, Akademik Öz Yeterlilik Ölçeği” kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde tanımlayıcı istatistikler, bağımsız gruplarda t testi, tek yönlü ANOVA testleri kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin %82,6’sı kadın, %37’si ikinci sınıf ve yaş ortalamalarının 20,91 (SS=1,62) olduğu belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin akademik öz yeterlilik puan ortalamaları 60,30 (SS=14,33) olarak saptanmıştır. Araştırmada, birinci ve son sınıftaki öğrencilerin akademik öz yeterlik düzeyleri diğer öğrencilere göre daha yüksek ve aradaki farkın istatistiksel olarak ileri düzeyde anlamlı olduğu belirlenmiştir (p<0,001). Yurtta kalan öğrenciler ile bilimsel programlara katılan öğrencilerin akademik öz yeterlik puan ortalaması, diğer gruplara göre daha yüksek ve aradaki farkın istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde olduğu saptanmıştır (p<0,05).
Sonuç: Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin akademik öz yeterlilik puan ortalamaları orta düzeyde bulunmuştur. Öğrencinin sınıfı, yaşadığı yer, bilimsel programlara katılma ve serbest zaman etkinlikleri akademik öz yeterliliği etkileyen etmenler olarak saptanmıştır.
